🔗Cultural Resources Digital Media Intern – 640 hours
Website National Park Service/NPCE Internship
Within sight of Miami, yet worlds away, Biscayne protects a rare combination of aquamarine waters, emerald islands, and fish-bejeweled coral reefs. Evidence of 10,000 years of human history is here too, from prehistoric tribes to shipwrecks, and pineapple farmers to presidents. For many, the park is a boating, fishing, and diving destination, while others enjoy a warm breeze and peaceful scenery.
This internship, funded through a grant from the National Park Foundation, will assist park resource managers in the development of web content highlighting the untold/underrepresented histories within Biscayne National Park. The primary goal of the internship is to assist in story development and public interpretation through the creation of ArcGIS Storymaps, a place-based interpretive platform capable of integrating traditional media (photos, scans, etc.) and interactive maps to provide a unique opportunity for visitors to learn about the people and places within Biscayne National Park.
The intern will work directly with park cultural resource managers, interpretive staff, and visual information specialists to research park history, develop interpretive material, draft narratives, and build the StoryMaps while also assisting in updating park websites and social media to reflect the new products. There is a possibility for this to be a remote, or partially remote position, with some travel to the Park to build familiarity with park resources and staff. Work may expand to include other related assignments as required. Workload may be part time depending on scheduling and need.
This position is funded by the National Council for Preservation Education (NCPE), in cooperation with the National Park Service. Program eligibility requirements apply; visit https://preservenet.org/ncpe-internships/ for details and instructions on how to apply.
Qualified NCPE interns who successfully complete their internships may count their position towards earning a Public Land Corps (PLC) Non-Competitive Hiring Authority certificate. Once earned, the PLC hiring authority certificate may be used to apply for eligible Federal temporary, term, or permanent positions. Visit the website listed above for details about this benefit. Successful completion of the internship does not guarantee Federal employment.
