BCA is a nationally recognized consulting firm specializing in architectural materials conservation and historic preservation. Over the course of nearly 40 years in business, BCA has documented, assessed, and assisted in the preservation of hundreds of historic buildings, many of which are National Historic Landmarks. BCA’s staff includes building conservators, preservation architects, historic preservationists, historians, and preservation planners. With its headquarters in New York City and regional offices in Boston, Philadelphia, Washington, DC, and Detroit, BCA works on projects throughout the United States. The Washington, DC office’s projects include sites in throughout the DC Metro Area, Virginia, and Maryland.
BCA interns are actively engaged in project-related activities such as research, site surveys and documentation, report writing, drawing preparation, and construction administration tasks.
It is anticipated that the intern will work between 30-40 hours per week and will be paid $25/hr. The internship will be primarily based in BCA’s Washington, DC-area office located in North Old Town, Alexandria, VA with the potential for some remote work.
Current projects for the Washington, DC office include:
• The preservation and restoration of historic finishes at the Smithsonian Castle and the update to the Castle’s National Historic Landmark nomination.
• Historic Structure Report for the Cabin Camp 3 Dining Hall at Prince William Forest Park.
• Several historic preservation planning projects at Washington Union Station.
• Security upgrades at a Senate Office Building.
• Historic preservation consulting for the Architect of the Capitol 20-year Master Plan, upgrading the format of the Architect of the Capitol’s Building Preservation Guides, and updating the Architect of the Capitol’s Design Guidelines.
• Masonry restoration design at Battleground National Cemetery.
• Several paint analyses for historic homes in New Kent County, VA.
• Construction administration for the restoration of the Maryland State House.
• Construction administration at the James Madison Memorial Building.
