Inviting applications for a full-time, Architectural Historian position within our national cultural resources practice group. The qualified candidate must meet the Secretary of the Interior’s (SOI) standards for Architectural History. Candidates will demonstrate at least 5 years of professional experience conducting historic architectural surveys for state Department of Transportation agencies, in particular CalTrans. Familiarity and proficiency with federal, state and local regulations and review agencies is required, including Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act, Section 4(f) of the Department of Transportation Act of 1966 and the California Environmental Quality Act. Experience beyond California or west coasts states is desirable.
This is a remote position based in California. Applicants in the Sacramento area will be offered a blended remote/in-office position in our Rancho Cordova office.
Required Skills & Required Experience
The successful candidate will:
- Possess a Master’s degree in historic preservation, architectural history, history, or closely related field, with coursework in American architectural history;
- Demonstrate at least five years of full-time experience in research, writing, or teaching in American architectural history or at least five years of full-time professional experience on historic preservation projects.
- Experience shall include detailed investigations of historic structures, completion of National Register eligibility determinations, preparation of historic structures research reports, and preparation of plans and specifications for preservation projects.
