Harpers Ferry Center is the interpretive media center for the National Park Service. HFC creates a variety of interpretive products including audiovisual programs, historic furnishings, indoor and wayside exhibits, maps, signs, publications, and virtual tours. The Center also maintain the Commissioned Art Collection and NPS History Collection.

The Harpers Ferry Center (HFC) Publications Office produces the iconic “black band” Unigrid brochures distributed at national parks (see collection). There are about 400 titles for most official National Park Service (NPS) units. In an average year, HFC prints over 20 million copies of about 200 different titles. The small-but-mighty team includes writer-editors, designers, cartographers, and program and print production staff.

The successful candidate will work with writer-editors to update and maintain the HFC Editorial Style Guide, which is used by staff across the NPS for communicating with the public through NPS.gov, printed products, and exhibits. They will compare the current style guide with selected dictionaries and style guides to ensure consistency and accuracy of entries and will draft suggested changes. They will propose copyedits to selected park Unigrid text using HFC style. They will also assist printing specialists with project management of Unigrid brochures by monitoring schedules and status reports. Additional duties could include assisting with the creation of accessible PDFs through tasks like drafting alternative text for images.
