Website Deep Roots Craftsmen

Deep Roots Craftsmen, a historic preservation contractor based in Fort Collins, Colorado, is looking for a Construction Project Manager to join our project management team heading into the 2025 season. If you’re interested in gaining valuable experience and occasionally traveling to see sites across Colorado and beyond, we would love to hear from you. Thanks in large part to one of the strongest grant programs in the country, preservation is thriving in Colorado. Most of our projects are partly state-funded, leading to an interesting and always varying range of non-profit clients and project sites. Our projects have ranged from historic barns, to school houses, to churches to museum spaces and additions/ renovations on private homes. Each job is unique in its elements but consistent in their adherence to the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards.

Responsibilities

The Construction Project Manager will be a key member of our historic preservation team, functioning in a hybrid role between direct project management and some broader operations efforts.  The specific breakout of tasks will be partly dependent on skills and experience, but candidates can anticipate a mix of site supervision, subcontractor coordination, project planning, design, estimating, project administration and financial tracking.  Opportunities will exist to participate in broader efforts on estimating, business development and operations but the primary focus would be directly to projects, managing 1-2 at a time.

The ideal candidate will be able to work independently and be very adept at managing a wide range of people.  Strong communication skills (both written and oral) are critical in this role as it will serve as a primary liaison on project communication.  The owner/ Senior Project Manager would work closely to support the Project Manager position, helping to assist on financial items and other project guidance.

The Construction Project Manager will handle all subcontractor coordination, compliance and quality control.  Nearly all projects will entail some form of subcontractor involvement.  You can anticipate a self-perform aspect of each project as well with anywhere from 1-6 in-house carpenters typically involved with our varying projects.

Job locations will be entirely dependent on backlog and could be located across Colorado.  However, a role that services primarily the Denver Metro area with the ability to engage in periodic efforts in Fort Collins is a priority.  Specific project assignments would be negotiated with the proper hiring candidate.

Duties

  • Direct daily and weekly management and execution of field preservation projects
  • Close coordination and tracking of quality control for in-house crew members and subcontractor
  • Create weekly project reports and potentially coordinate issuance of these reports company-wide across all projects

  • Assist with monthly subcontractor billings and pay applications
  • Complete shop drawings for shop fabrication
  • Potentially lead effort to issue monthly newsletter to client base
  • Potential to assist with marketing efforts and gathering/ cataloging of project photos
  • Help update project communication platform
  • Serve as one of primary communication “hubs” for coordination between different areas of the company and staff
