  • Job Qualifications:

    Position Requires:

    Bachelor’s degree in Architectural History, History, Historic Preservation, or closely related field.

    Demonstrable experience in conducting archival research, building and cultural landscape / trails inventories, and surveys of the built environment.

    Strong familiarity with architectural terms and styles typical to the western United States.

    Be able to work cooperatively in a team-oriented setting.

    Must be able to travel and work out-of-town.

    Possess a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.

    Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Exemptions from vaccination may be considered for medical reasons or for a sincerely held religious belief.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Master’s degree in Architectural History, Historic Preservation, History, or closely related field.

    Currently meet the Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualification Standards for Architectural History; meeting both Architectural History and History qualifications standards strongly preferred.

    Experience preparing Historic American Buildings Survey, Historic American Engineering Record, Historic American Landscape Survey, and National Historic Trails documentation.

    Familiarity with Arizona/western U.S. history.

The annual compensation range begins at $45,000; the salary range is upwardly flexible so as to ensure compensation commensurate with one’s experience and education. Responsibilities Include:

Conducting and assisting with historic preservation and other cultural resources fieldwork, including documentation of historic buildings, structures, sites, objects, and districts.

Conducting historical background research.

Evaluating properties according to the National Register of Historic Places Criteria for Evaluation.

Preparing reports and other work products, such as historical contexts, architectural surveys, historic property inventory forms, Historic Property Certification Application documentation, and National Register of Historic Places nominations.
