National Park Service/NCPE Internship Program

Intern develops an “Explore” brochure targeted to the public to raise awareness about National Park Service (NPS) programs and partners. Intern will have input on the focus of the brochure, which will feature either an urban area, such as Chicago or Minneapolis, or will present thematically associated properties within NPS’s Interior Regions 3, 4 and 5 (Midwest). The brochure will provide information on NPS programs including National Historic Landmarks (NHLs), National Heritage Areas, Historic Surplus Property, and the Underground Railroad Network to Freedom. Intern creates the content and design for the brochure and will ensure consistency with NPS graphic standards, principles of communication, and compliance standards with Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 for greater accessibility by users of differing abilities.

Secondary duties may include writing social media content, providing editorial assistance to Underground Railroad Network to Freedom nominations, and reviewing Historic American Buildings Survey/Historic American Engineering Record documents. Some project-related travel may be required and will be funded by the program. Intern will work under the supervision of a Historic Preservation Partnerships program Architectural Historian. Internship located in Omaha, NE. The intern is responsible for housing and transportation to and from Omaha; a housing stipend is included.
