  • Job Qualifications:

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • MA/MS degree in a related fields such as History, Historic Preservation, or Architectural History.
    • 6-10+ years of professional experience working in historic preservation or related field
    • Meets, or exceeds, the requirements for an Architectural Historian and/or Historian under the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards.
    • Demonstrated experience in National Register of Historic Places criteria evaluation and Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act.
    • Self-starter and team-oriented.
    • Strong oral and written communication skills.
    • Highly organized and professional with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
    • Good general knowledge of common architectural styles, forms, terms, and historical development.
    • Travel to a range of project and office locations, including remote locations, is required, and travel expenses are provided. Candidates should have the capacity and be willing to work outdoors in all seasons through various kinds of weather for field survey purposes.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Completion of FHWA or ACHP Certified Section 106 Course
    • Previous historian/preservationist experience in the A/E industry
    • Working understanding of architectural drawings
      Knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit, GIS
    • Experienced in Adobe Creative Suite

We are currently seeking a new member of our preservation planning team. The position is expected to be full-time, but other options are negotiable for the right candidate. Quinn Evans offers an established team of preservation planning experts who work in a collegial, intellectually stimulating environment that fosters professional development. The successful candidate will work on a diverse range of projects for a well-developed client base that includes federal agencies, state and local governments, and private sector clients. This position can be based out of any of Quinn Evans’s five offices in Washington, DC, Richmond, VA, Baltimore, MD, Ann Arbor, MI, or Detroit, MI.
Responsibilities include:

  • General historic research
  • Technical report writing
  • Intensive archival and technical research
  • Research, evaluation, and documentation for:
    • Section 106 Compliance
    • Historic Structure Reports
    • Historic Resource Surveys
    • Cultural Landscape Reports
    • State and Federal Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credit Applications
    • National Register Nominations
  • Interaction with client and regulatory personnel
  • Collaboration with architectural and cultural landscape teams in various office locations
