Website National Park Service/NCPE Internship Program

The successful candidate will work with Midwest Archeological Center (MWAC) staff and Tribal Cultural Specialists (TCS) conducting archeological inventory at Theodore Roosevelt National Park (THRO) and also assist with collections inventory and management at the park.

The intern will gain experience in a variety of archeological field and curatorial activities such as archeological inventory and testing, collections research, cataloging objects using official National Park Service (NPS) cataloging software (ICMS), packaging and preparing artifacts and archives for storage, accessioning/deaccessioning artifacts, and tracking environmental conditions for the storage repository.

Archeological resources in the park that might be encountered include American Indian sites such as artifact scatters and habitations, and historic resources such as homesteads and ranching sites. Artifacts in the park collection include American Indian artifacts as well as historic items related to Theodore Roosevelt’s time in the park, such as his gun collection and other ranching related items. Work will be performed in person at Theodore Roosevelt National Park in Medora, ND. There is a possibility of free park housing.

This position is part of the Internship Program administered by the National Council for Preservation Education (NCPE). The program is a partnership between the National Park Service and NCPE.
