Website ASM Affiliates

ASM is a 100% employee-owned company with nearly 50 years of experience as a cultural resource management (CRM) consulting firm. We specialize in architectural history, history, archaeology and environmental regulatory compliance services for federal, state, and local agencies and private proponents throughout California, Nevada, Arizona, Oregon, Washington, and Hawaii.

ASM Affiliates (ASM) has an immediate opening for a full-time Historian or Architectural Historian to be based in any of our California offices (Sacramento, Bakersfield, Pasadena, or Carlsbad). We are seeking a FT (30-40 hours per week) candidate with more than 5 years of experience, preferably with some experience evaluating water-related resources. Be part of our dedicated team of Architectural Historians and Historians who enjoy collaborating on our work.  Further your career with mentorship from our Director of Architectural History—a former Historian at the National Register of Historic Places with more than 25 years of experience in the field of historic preservation. Work at a small company where we are able to pursue a wide variety of projects, rather than having to specialize in one type of resource or report type. ASM’s Architectural Historians have the opportunity to travel throughout the west coast but we are also firmly dedicated to a work-life balance and flexible working hours. We also support continued education by sending you to one conference annually.

As an Architectural Historian, you will be expected to perform efficiently and independently in a fast-paced environment. You will also be expected to work with minimal supervision under the direction of the Director of Architectural History and to collaborate with other historians on the team. Project work may include the following: documentation and recordation of historic properties; architectural surveys; historic context development, CRHR and NRHP evaluations; and impacts/effects determinations in compliance with CEQA and Section 106 of the NHPA, as well as local regulations. The position will support all of our offices, but especially our offices in Carlsbad, Pasadena, Bakersfield and Sacramento,  with potential travel opportunities throughout the west coast including Hawaii. A positive attitude will best enable the historian to succeed in ASM’s collaborative work environment and develop mutually beneficial relationships with co-workers, clients, subconsultants, and management.
