An engineering masterpiece, the 184.5-mile long C&O Canal transported goods to and from Georgetown, DC to Cumberland, MD in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Today, the C&O Canal National Historical Park hosts about 5 million visitors each year who enjoy its historical, natural, and recreational treasures.
The successful candidate will assist the park’s Cultural Resources Management Team with processing, re-housing, arranging, and creating a finding aid for archival and records material including but not limited to historic documents, photographs, audiovisual matter, and maps. Duties may include cataloging, digitizing, and describing images. Other duties may also include assisting with inventorying, documenting, and packing museum objects; museum housekeeping and IPM; assisting with documentation of park historic structures; and coordinating with the Interpretation Division on public history products. Duties may also include working outdoors under diverse weather conditions and driving to locations along the 184.5-mile length of the park. The weekly schedule and start date are negotiable. The intern is responsible for housing and transportation. Work is based out of park offices in Williamsport, MD.
