    Minimum Qualification Requirements

    Attainment of a minimum of a master’s degree from a recognized college or university in architectural history, historic preservation, art history or closely related area, and a minimum of three years experience in historical research and surveying; or a combination of education and experience equivalent to these requirements.

Conducts field surveys to compile historical and architectural data; researches and analyzes sources of information such as court records, tax assessments, archives, newspapers and photographs; organizes and evaluates data on the basis of authenticity and relevant significance, and prepares comprehensive reports from same; submits recommendations for renovation or remodeling of historical structures; reviews work-in-progress and upon completion for compliance with approved plans; assists subordinates and reviews work performance; prepares Economic Recovery Tax Act certifications and National Register nominations; provides advice and assistance to architectural review boards; implements programs designed to increase public awareness and participation in historic preservation; documents and publicizes the city’s history and architecture through books, magazine and newspaper articles, brochures, exhibits, lectures, and walking tours; surveys federally funded project sites for environmental review reports; supervises the renovation of historic buildings; markets historic buildings; performs related work as required.
