  • Job Summary: Manages office and staff responsible for designation of historic districts and landmarks, and providing regulation of construction, alteration and demolition in historic districts and of landmarks.
  • Job Qualifications:

    A Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Urban Design, Historic Preservation, or a related field; plus seven years of professional experience in historic/architectural preservation, urban design, or a related field that includes at least two years in a management capacity. OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

    Preferences:

    • 10 years of professional experience in historic/architectural preservation, urban design, or a related field.
    • 5 years of experience in a management capacity.
    • 3 years of experience in a government agency.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Management and administration of the Cultural Resources Office (CRO) and staff 5 members.
  • Support and manage the staffing needs of the 9-member Preservation Board.
  • Provide advice and design review to property owners, developers, local officials and organizations involved in preservation projects.
  • Maintain the status of the Cultural Resources Office as a Certified Local Government.
  • Promotion of historic/cultural resources as amenities and assets of the City of St. Louis as protected by various laws and regulations.
  • Supervision of consultants and grant funded projects.
  • Identify potential funding sources that can assist the CRO in achieving its goals.
  • Advocacy of use of technology in the conduct of the Cultural Resources Office including the supervision of CRO maintained websites.
