  • Job Summary: Dewberry Engineers Inc. (Dewberry) invites applications for a full-time, mid-level, archaeologist position within our national cultural resource group. The position will be based in our Richmond, Virginia office.
  • Job Qualifications:
    • The qualified candidate will meet Secretary of the Interior’s (SOI) standards for archeology.
    • Candidates must have an MA in anthropology, archaeology, and/or closely related discipline.
    • The ideal candidate will bring at least five years of experience as a principal investigator with similar years of experience conducting in-field archaeology and writing compliance reports.
    • Candidates must have experience supervising and conducting field surveys in Virginia and the surrounding states.
    • Experience working on electrical transmission projects and familiarity with SCC pre-applications a must.
    • The qualified candidate will possess knowledge and project experience working with applicable federal (Section 106/110 of the National Historic Preservation Act), Virginia DEQ PBR regulations and county level reviews.
    • Candidates must have conducted Phase I and II field investigations and previously authored compliant documentation for state and local level review.
    • Dewberry is seeking a qualified motivated individual who can make independent decisions, carry out a project through completion, and work closely under senior cultural resource staff.
    • Proximity to the greater Richmond area preferred.

  • Job duties will entail management of field staff, completing background research and regulatory reviews, archaeological field investigations and management, and final reporting.
  • Qualified candidates should demonstrate field experience and perform each all stages of investigation from field work to reporting.
  • Established relationships with state and federal review agencies is a plus.
  • Must be knowledgeable of federal, state and local field and reporting standards. Proficiency with GIS software is preferred.
