    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Graduate degree in Historic Preservation, History, Art History, Architectural History, or a closely related field, with coursework in American architectural history AND

    At least three years of full-time professional experience in the field of architecture, urban planning, or historic preservation; OR

    Bachelor’s Degree in Historic Preservation, History, Art History, Architectural History or a closely related field, with coursework in American architectural history AND

    At least five years of full-time professional experience in the field of architecture, urban planning, or historic preservation

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/ DUTIES

  • Work as an internal project team leader
  • Coordinate with clients and state and federal agencies
  • Coordinate with third party consultants and professionals
  • Prepare scopes, budgets, and schedules for medium-sized projects
  • Attend pre-proposal meetings for prospective projects
  • Attend interviews for prospective projects
  • May act as a primary contact with client on small projects
  • Work constructively with other Architectural Historians, interns, and volunteers in conducting historical resource surveys
  • Manage scopes, budgets, and schedules for assigned projects
  • Represent GPA at professional events, conferences, and workshops
  • Prepare national, state, and local landmark applications with minimal supervision
  • Prepare historic context statements with minimal supervision
  • Prepare CEQA and Section 106 compliance reports with minimal supervision
  • Prepare HABS/HAER documentation with minimal supervision
  • Prepare Mills Act and Tax Credit applications with minimal supervision
  • Prepare design guidelines with minimal supervision
  • Prepare historic resource survey reports with minimal supervision
  • Prepare local preservation ordinances and programs with minimal supervision
  • Conduct interviews and formal oral histories with knowledgeable individuals
  • Define study areas and areas of potential effects for CEQA and Section 106 compliance reports
  • Develop survey and project methodology
  • Apply the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties
  • Peer review architectural descriptions and statements of significance and integrity
  • Finalize project reports and work products
  • Present applications and findings at public hearings and meetings

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Experience in the identification, evaluation, and documentation historical resources.
  • The ability to apply federal, state, and local policies, procedures, and programs related to historical resources.
  • Knowledge in historic preservation theory and practices, rehabilitation techniques, and architectural history.
  • Outstanding historical research, digital photography, historic architecture identification, and technical writing skills and oral communication.
  • The ability to produce technical written materials that meet the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards and Guidelines for Archaeology and Historic Preservation and other federal and state review agency standards and guidelines.
