Website Groundwork Preservation LLC
Groundwork Preservation is a cultural resources consulting practice that provides a full range of historical and cultural resources services including: documentation, evaluation, interpretation, mitigation, historic design review, community outreach, tax credits, and more. We prepare historic resource documentation for buildings, cultural landscapes, and historic districts in support of the environmental review process under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act, and related regulations. We also assist our clients in developing sensitive design concepts for historic properties that balance project objectives with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Rehabilitation of Historic Properties.
This summer, Groundwork Preservation is looking for an intern to assist with research, mapping, and writing tasks for historic documentation projects. The intern will learn the ins and outs of historic research methods and best practices, focusing mostly on projects in California. This is a fully remote position, and candidates do not need to be located in California to apply, but preference will be given to candidates located in the state or who have an interest in working in California at the start of their careers. This will be a rewarding and valuable introductory work experience for those interested in the history, cultural resources, or preservation planning fields. The intern will conduct research, collect and analyze data, format photos and reports, create maps, prepare sections of draft documents for historic and cultural resource projects, and contribute to Groundwork’s blog series.
The 12-week summer internship runs from June 1, 2026 through August 21, 2026 (exact dates are negotiable). This is a paid position (10-20 hours per week depending on availability, $25-30/hour depending on experience).
Salary: $25-30 (based on experience)
