The Hawaii State Historic Preservation Division (SHPD) is comprised of three branches: Archaeology Branch, History & Culture Branch, and Architecture Branch. We are responsible for administering programs established under the National Historic Preservation Act and Hawaii Revised Statutes, Chapter 6E.
This position’s primary purpose is to manage and conduct HRS §6E-8, 10, and 42 reviews for the modification of properties under State or County jurisdiction. It will also be expected to perform historic preservation consultations for federal projects that are identified as undertakings, pursuant to 36 CFR §800.16(y), or require a combined HRS §6E review and NHPA Section 10 consultation. This position will interact with homeowners, contractors, County, City, and Federal agencies to review and consult on undertakings that potentially affect historic resources in Hawaii. This position will also be expected to identify architectural sites that are eligible for inclusion in the Hawaii and/or National Registers of Historic Places. It will conduct historical and architectural research and assist with the preparation of registration forms, and other duties as assigned. We will consider entry-level applicants for this position.
