    EDUCATION: Studying Computer Science, Digital Technologies, or a related field.

    SKILLS:
    Create and work from mock-ups for proposed webpage design.
    Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
    Excellent organizational and communication skills.
    Detail-oriented.
    Work on a small team.
    Work remotely and interact with colleagues with chat & video.
    Knowledge of HTML and/or experience with content management systems (CMS) preferred but not required. We can provide training in CMS (CommonSpot).
    Ability to create a tagging system for organizing shared content preferred but not required. We can provide training.
    Understanding of government website accessibility (Sect. 508) guidelines preferred but not required. We can provide training.
    Edit images in graphics software such as Photoshop or Illustrator preferred but not required. We can provide training.

Website National Park Service/NCPE Internship Program

The Heritage Documentation Programs, comprised of the Historic American Buildings Survey (HABS), Historic American Engineering Record (HAER) and Historic American Landscapes Survey (HALS) records historic architecture, engineering, and landscapes through the production of measured drawings, histories, and photographs for its Library of Congress collection.

This position will play a key role in updating and modernizing Heritage Documentation Programs’ (HDP) website. HDP is moving its website from HTML to a content management system (CMS). Training in CMS will be provided if needed. Applicants should be detail-oriented, with strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills. This internship will be offered remotely, so the ability to work independently (with regular check-ins with the project supervisor) is a priority. In addition to working on the technical details of moving web content, the intern will help address big-picture questions, such as the new website’s organization, navigability, and accessibility to multiple audiences. The final product will be a new public-facing website (or a substantial portion of the new website). If interested, the intern can develop new some thematic content or update existing content, such as for monthly commemorations. HDP consists of three related programs: The Historic American Buildings Survey (HABS), Historic American Engineering Record (HAER), and Historic American Landscapes Survey (HALS). The programs document historical buildings, engineering, and cultural landscapes, and archive this material in a publicly-accessible manner. Staff members include architects, landscape architects, historians, a photographer, and a collections manager.
