  • Job Qualifications:
    • Graduate degree in Historic Preservation, Architectural History, or a related field
    • Meets theĀ Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualification Standards for Historian and Architectural Historian
    • Ability to travel (2- to 12-day trips)
    • At least 2 year’s experience researching, writing about, and evaluating the built environment for historical significance and applying the SOI Standards
    • Exceptional research and writing skills and familiarity with the Chicago Manual of Style
    • Experience reading architectural and engineering plans

We are a team of practical preservationists, skilled at navigating design challenges and review processes to achieve successful results for our clients.

Hess, Roise and Company are seeking a full-time historian/architectural historian. Projects will include in-depth archival research, historical/architectural resource surveys, state/federal compliance reviews, National Register nominations, documentation studies, and historical interpretation. Hess Roise has a strong reputation for completing successful historic tax credit applications, and we are particularly interested in hiring staff with experience or interest in this area.

  • Anticipated start date: January 2023
  • In-person position in our Minneapolis office
  • COVID-19 vaccination is required unless exempt for medical or religious reasons
  • Must have a car for work use; parking provided and mileage reimbursed.
