  • Job Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s Degree (Prefer Library Science, Museum Studies, History, Historic Preservation or related field); recent or near completion of degree accepted
    • Experience working in a museum, archives or library as an employee or volunteer would be beneficial
    • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills
    • Organizational and time management skills
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs and social media platforms
    • Commitment to the mission and values of the HSG Museum & Archives
    • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs

Website Historic St. George's Museum & Archives

Historic St. George’s United Methodist Church in Philadelphia is the oldest continuously operated Methodist church in America. Its church building is over 250 years old. The HSG Museum & Archives are housed in the adjacent structures. The museum shares the story of the development of American Methodism alongside the growth of Philadelphia and the nation. The archives include objects, records and photographs relating to that history, as well as the records of hundreds of closed Methodist churches within Eastern Pennsylvania.

Under direction of the Museum Manager, the Archives Assistant will help to develop and implement projects within the HSG Museum & Archives. Projects may include organizing and cataloging collections, digitizing photographs, creating spreadsheets, updating databases, and conducting research within the HSG Archives. The Archives Assistant may also help with occasional public programs and community outreach.

This position requires approximately 75% of on-site work each week, while the remainder may be either on-site or remote.

This position is grant-funded through the remainder of 2024. There is potential for the position to continue beyond that time but it is not guaranteed.
