Internship Location: Hybrid – remote and/or on site at the History Colorado Center, Denver, CO

Stipend: $3,000. The stipend is not salary or compensation. The stipend is meant to support study and research during the tenure of the appointment and will be issued upon completion of the internship.

Apply by: March 14, 2025

Desired Schedule: 3 months (approximately 24 hours per week) starting the week of  May 19, 2025.

Broad Scope of Position: During the internship, the intern will be responsible for researching and completing a State or National Register nomination for a resource that qualifies for the Colorado Heritage For All Initiative (CO HFA). The CO HFA is a bold goal to list 150 resources that represent the history of marginalized communities in the State and/or National Register of Historic Places by 2026. This position would select at least one resource in the State of Colorado that represents one of these marginalized communities and research the history of the resource, conduct community outreach to learn the history of the resource, write the nomination, and see it through the process of the listing. If time allows, this position would also allow the intern to write an amendment to an existing State or National Register nomination to include an area of significance that was previously unrecognized.

The main objectives of this internship are to:

-Understand the State and National Register Program and its major components including identification, evaluation, research, argumentation, and listing.
-Identify and evaluate an historic resource for its eligibility to the State or National Register and the Colorado Heritage for All Initiative.
-Research and complete a State or National Register Nomination Form for a historic resource in Colorado.
-Understand the different departments and functions of the State Historic Preservation Office including exposure to the Historic Tax Credit Program, Section 106 Compliance, Certified Local Government Program, Office of the State Archaeologist, and the Colorado State Historical Fund.
