  • Physical Demands / Work Environment: Kirk Huffaker Preservation Strategies seeks an architectural historian or historic preservation planner for full-time employment. Established in fall 2019, opportunities abound now and into the future to help grow KHPS, a small local business of three employees. KHPS has been working regionally in the Intermountain West and nationally from a base in Salt Lake City for clients who are excited about historic preservation. Company information, a project list, the principal’s resume, and the current team information are available at www.kirkhuffaker.com. I am seeking a confident, curious, dynamic individual who is driven to deliver high quality work. While this is advertised as an architectural historian and/or historic preservation planner position, additional skills such as public engagement and speaking, social media management, project management, proposal preparation, graphic design (i.e. Adobe InDesign), and GIS are important and will be considered in addition to traditional experience. You are likely right for this position if you are not interested in big company corporate culture but are looking for a flexible small-business approach where you can be an integral part of its growth. The position offers an option for hybrid work (part-time remote and part-time office), as well as a full-time office option. This position is not a full-time fully remote position; do not inquire or apply if you are seeking a full-time fully remote position. The employee must be located in the Salt Lake City metro area or be willing to relocate to this region. The employee will perform a variety of office and field tasks including historic research, completion of historic resource evaluations/assessments, property documentation, public engagement, and working with and developing new clients. KHPS supports diversity and inclusion and is committed to providing equal opportunity. KHPS does not cover relocation costs if an employee is from out of the region. Upon an accepted offer, there will be 90-day and 6-month trial periods for the new employee that begins at the employment starting date. Do not apply for this position if you: ❖ Are seeking a fully remote position; ❖ Do not meet the Secretary of the Interior’s qualification standards in Architectural History and/or Historic Preservation and/or Preservation Planning; ❖ Cannot make regular site visits to sites that may be difficult to access and buildings that are not accessible and do not meet building or health codes; and, ❖ Require health insurance (as this is not currently part of the benefits offered).
