This paid internship will provide the intern with the opportunity to support Landmarks Illinois’ annual Most Endangered Historic Places in Illinois list. Most Endangered lists are a common and valuable historic preservation advocacy tool; this position will allow the intern to develop a set of skills transferable to a variety of preservation organizations. The intern will work closely with Advocacy and Communications staff to prepare for the announcement of the 2025 list in late spring.
Specifically, the intern will have the opportunity to develop an understanding of:
- Most Endangered lists as a preservation advocacy tool
- Working with the public to save places that are important to them
- The role of communications in supporting preservation advocacy
Responsibilities include:
- Review nominations for 2025 Most Endangered Historic Places list
- Research/due diligence on nominated places. Liaise with nominators as needed
- Assist advocacy staff to refine the list of places
- Develop presentations for Landmarks Illinois Executive Committee to assist with approval of the final list
- Help develop copy for each site to be used in our communications
- Support collection of information and materials needed prior to announcement date in May 2025
Internship Dates: January 2025 – May 2025
Hours: 200
Pay: $16.20 per hour (total of $3,240)
Location: Hybrid preferred. Fully remote considered for the right candidate.
