  • Job Qualifications:

    The successful candidate must have:  Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in anthropology, archaeology, history, museum studies or closely related field and at least three (3) years of relevant work experience, one (1) of which was at a supervisory level.

     

    The ideal candidate will have any/all of the following:

    ·         Knowledge with/experience in compliance with applicable cultural resource laws including Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act

    ·         Understanding of generally accepted archaeological laboratory methods and procedures

    ·         Working knowledge of the material culture of the Mid-Atlantic

    ·         Experience with the standard analysis methods for a variety of artifact types

    ·         Knowledge of US History and the National Register of Historic Places Criteria,

    ·         Experience with federal (36 CFR 79) and state curation standards

    ·         Familiarity with alternative lab analysis and preservation methodologies, including x-radiography, electrolysis, and other stabilization methods

    ·         Knowledge of state historic preservation office guidelines throughout the service area

Responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing workflows related to archaeological collections to assure quality control, staff productivity and appropriate training, and compliance with deadlines and budgets, to include the work of Collections Coordinators and Lab Technicians.
  • Responsible for accuracy, legibility, and completeness of all laboratory documents, as well as accuracy and completeness of reports and other deliverables.
  • Planning, performing, and/or delegating cataloguing and specialized artifact analyses, as appropriate.
  • Analyzing and interpreting data provided by lab staff and artifact specialists, and providing associated reporting, in accordance with project scope, timeline, and budget.
  • Composing or assisting with composing, as assigned, project reports and other deliverables for submission to clients and agencies.
  • Coordinating and communicating with staff, clients, landowners, and relevant agency personnel, as needed, or delegating such coordination and communication.
  • Tracking and reporting project expenses, including lab supplies, outside analysts, and curation costs.
  • Responsible for coordinating and contributing lab content to the company blog and social media accounts.
  • Updating the Laboratory, Cataloging, and Field Sampling Manuals as needed.
  • Maintaining a clean and safe laboratory in accordance with applicable laws and safety protocols.
    Other duties as assigned.
