  • Job Qualifications:
    • M.S or M.A. in Architectural History, History, Anthropology, or a related field
    • Meets the Secretary of the Interior’s professional standards for history and/or architectural history
    • At least three years of experience recording historic resources, including a significant number of historic architecture sites
    • Currently listed, or able to be listed, as person in direct charge of fieldwork on antiquities permits in at least one of Metcalf’s major states or federal jurisdictions
    • Demonstrated experience in cultural resource management and working knowledge of state and federal regulations including the Section 106 process and historic preservation statutes
    • Experience with the Historic American Buildings Survey/Engineering Record/Landscape Survey documentation and procedures is preferred
    • Experience working with National Register Nominations is preferred
    • Experience supervising crews is preferred but not required
    • Active First Aid/CPR certification (may be obtained after hiring)

Metcalf Archaeological Consultants, Inc. is looking for an experienced Architectural Historian to work in any of our offices (Lakewood, Eagle, or Grand Junction in Colorado, Bismarck, ND, or Bozeman, MT). This position is hourly and full-time, regular.

Architectural Historians at Metcalf work independently on smaller projects or as part of a larger team under the direction of a Project Supervisor and conduct historic resource surveys and assessments.  On some projects, the Architectural Historian may act as a project supervisor.  Responsibilities also extend to ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and permits, monitoring schedules and budgets, and maintaining high levels of quality.
