  • Job Qualifications:
    1. Education – Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in History, Architectural History, American Studies, Anthropology, Archaeology, or Architecture.
    2. Experience – One (1) year of experience in historic site surveying, historic preservation planning, or  any combination  of  the  following: research  and/or  writing  in American  architectural history and/or historic preservation; investigation and/or research of historic structures; preparation or review of   plans/specifications  for  preservation  projects;  research, writing,  interpretation, or related activity  with  an  historic organization,  agency,  or  museum;. NOTE: A Master’s degree in Historic Preservation, Architectural History, History or related field may be substituted for the required experience.
    3. Knowledge of principles, objectives, standards, and practices of historic preservation and cultural resource management.
    4. 4. Ability to conduct professional-level historical research, including the full range of primary and secondary sources from libraries, museums and online sites, and to produce well-written, detailed historical narratives, technical reports and interpretive materials for historic sites and park history.
    5. Ability and willingness to learn historic preservation project management, including building construction and interpretive exhibits, typically involving background research, consultant management, review of plans and specifications, and implementation.
    6. Strong communication and organization skills, as well as excellent writing abilities.  Applicants will be required to submit writing samples in the form of essays and technical reports to demonstrate writing and research competency.
    7. Driver’s license valid in New Jersey to perform essential duties of the position.
    8. Applicant should be proficient in Microsoft Office.

Full-time Historic Preservation Specialist for the Acquisition & Design Department of the Monmouth County Park System, Lincroft, New Jersey.  Located in central New Jersey, the Monmouth County Park System includes more than 17,000 acres and 43 parks, including historic sites, recreation areas, regional parks and trails, horticultural gardens, conservation areas, and golf courses. Established in 1960, the Park System operates with a full-time staff of 350 people, providing facilities, programs, and services to the County’s more than 600,000 residents.
