🔗Historic Site Interpreter – Battery Lewis
Monmouth County Park System
Perched high atop Rocky Point in Hartshorne Woods Park overlooking the Atlantic sits Battery Lewis, New Jersey’s only 16-inch gun battery from WWII. Once part of the Navesink Military Reservation, Battery Lewis was constructed to play a critical role in the defense of New York Harbor. The Navesink Military Reservation Historic District is on both the National and State Register of Historic Places. The Park System seeks a dynamic historic interpreter to lead public weekend tours and private groups through this unique site.
Position requirements include:
- Become well-versed with interpretive and background materials, and tour script, which will be provided.
- Engage with the public in a congenial and welcoming manner; maintain a sense of excitement about relative topics; respect different learning levels and points of view.
- Conduct guided tours of the Battery; interpret exhibits and provide visitor with a deeper understanding of the history of the park and the effects of WWII in New Jersey.
- Qualified applicants with a strong educational background may be invited to assist with other park system historic research projects.
On-site training will be provided.
