  • Job Summary: Morongo Band of Mission Indians is seeking a dynamic professional The NAGPRA Coordinator responsible for overseeing repatriation efforts relating to the Federal Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA- 25 U.S.C. §§ 3001-13).
  • Job Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in the field of Law, Anthropology, Museum Studies, Native American Studies, or related field; Master’s Degree preferred
    • A minimum of 3 years of professional experience demonstrating knowledge and understanding of procedures and compliance with the Federal Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA- 25 U.S.C. §§ 3001-13) and its accompanying regulations (43 C.F.R. §§ I0.1-.17) as well as relevant State legislation including CalNAGPRA (AB978) and its amendments (i.e., AB275, AB389).
    • Strong comprehension of NAGPRA associated documentation
    • Experience working with culturally significant materials; experience in processing and cataloguing culturally significant materials preferred
    • Knowledge of Southern California Tribal history, culture, and lifeways for both Federally and Non-Federally recognized Tribes
    • An “all hands-on deck” mentality
    • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of classified/sensitive information.

Our NAGPRA Coordinator will lead the Morongo NAGPRA committee and must remain engaged during each step of the repatriation process, always remaining committed to the current repatriation goals of the Morongo Band of Mission Indians. Furthermore, the NAGPRA Coordinator will strive to present informational reports and documentation that will enable informed decision-making regarding repatriation efforts for both the Morongo NAGPRA Committee and Morongo Tribal Council.
