🔗Museum Collection Management Intern – 1200 hours

Chaco Culture National Historical Park and Aztec Ruins National Monument are designated UNESCO World Heritage Sites charged with preserving and interpreting as thriving regional centers for the Ancestral Pueblo people from 850 to 1300s C.E. The national parks are co-managed and the Museum & Archives Program cares for collections and information critical to the research, evolving understanding, and continued management of these places.
The successful candidate will work for both Chaco Culture National Historical Park and Aztec Ruins National Monument and will be stationed at the National Park Service (NPS) Chaco-Aztec Museum & Archives Facility in Albuquerque, NM. The intern will work alongside the Museum Curator, Archivist, and multiple partner staff members, assisting with the identification and organization of accessioned born-digital archival files on park servers and materials for potential accession. The intern will also support routine curatorial operations at the Facility, including integrated pest management, environmental monitoring, housekeeping, and equipment maintenance. The position includes working with objects to inventory items, address re-housing needs, and update associated documentation. The intern will also work with various forms of museum documentation including the creation of new documents and review of existing documents.
The position must be completed in person and is not offered as a remote internship. The NPS Chaco-Aztec Museum & Archive Facility is located on the University of New Mexico Main Campus. A parking pass is included in the internship. A commuting stipend is available, up to $500. This internship will be full-time but can be part-time during the academic year if a current student is selected. The intern will have the opportunity to make day trip(s) to Chaco Culture NHP and/or Aztec Ruins NM.
This position is part of the Internship Program administered by the National Council for Preservation Education (NCPE). The program is a partnership between the National Park Service and NCPE. The successful applicants must be 30 years of age or younger (or 35 years or younger if a Veteran) when they begin the internship. Qualified NCPE interns who complete their internships may count their position towards earning a Public Land Corps (PLC) Non-Competitive Hiring Authority certificate.
