Harpers Ferry Center is the National Park Service's Media Center that creates a variety of interpretive tools to assist NPS field interpreters. These tools include audiovisual programs, historic furnishings, museum exhibits, publications, and wayside exhibits. HFC also provides a variety of services including graphics research, interpretive planning, media contracting, artifact conservation, revision and reprinting of publications, and replacement of wayside exhibits.

The successful candidate will work directly with the Commissioned Art Collection Manager to handle art, complete database records, digitize files, and rehouse art. The primary work will focus on scanning, organizing, and attaching contract and research files to collection database records. Duties include using Photoshop and Bridge to edit digital images, rewriting and expanding image descriptions to reflect current and appropriate terminology, and organizing publications that feature art from the collection.
The intern will be part of a team that assists each other as needed to help everyone succeed. Training is provided in the use of FileMaker and a digital asset management system to accomplish the work. The position will be able to telework two days a week, so access to reliable home internet is important. The internship is for 930 hours or 23+ weeks full-time.
This position is part of the Internship Program administered by the National Council for Preservation Education (NCPE). The program is a partnership between the National Park Service and NCPE. The successful applicants must be 30 years of age or younger (or 35 years or younger if a Veteran) when they begin the internship. Qualified NCPE interns who complete their internships may count their position towards earning a Public Land Corps (PLC) Non-Competitive Hiring Authority certificate.
