The Bureau of Land Management (BLM)’s Canyons of the Ancients Visitor Center and Museum showcases human histories within the landscape of southwestern Colorado and ongoing connections to modern communities, primarily through the material culture of Ancestral Pueblo people and the methods that archaeologists use to understand the past. The museum houses artifacts and records from archaeological projects and serves as the headquarters for Canyons of the Ancients National Monument.

The successful candidate will gain broad exposure to BLM curation procedures and standards and obtain an understanding of collections management fundamentals. Duties include cataloging and rehousing artifacts, performing inventories of exhibited and stored archaeological collections, building custom mounts for artifacts, implementing the Curation Program’s integrated pest management and housekeeping procedures, and assisting with the day-to-day needs of the program. A central component of this internship will be organizing and preparing objects and documentation for consultation and repatriation. On-site housing is provided free of charge to the intern. This is a 640-hour internship that may be extended up to 1200 hours.

This position is part of the Internship Program administered by the National Council for Preservation Education (NCPE).
