The National Park Service Midwest Region’s Historic Architecture and Landscapes Program provides parks with the technical assistance, project management, and documentation/evaluation expertise to manage and preserve historic properties.
The intern will assist Historic Architecture and Landscapes program staff with documenting historic landscapes and buildings in Midwest Region parks of the National Park Service (NPS) and updating the historic property inventory by performing research, analysis, data entry, and potentially mapping/drawing. This work may involve field investigation, site documentation, building measurement and photography, historical research, and analysis using the NPS program for inventorying historic properties. Additional duties include assisting with data entry, corresponding with park staff, and consulting with State Historic Preservation Offices (SHPOs).
This is an in-person, full-time, 40-hour-a-week internship, and includes a travel stipend and housing allowance.
This position is part of the Internship Program administered by the National Council for Preservation Education (NCPE). The program is a partnership between the National Park Service and NCPE. The successful applicants must be 30 years of age or younger (or 35 years or younger if a Veteran) when they begin the internship. Qualified NCPE interns who complete their internships may count their position towards earning a Public Land Corps (PLC) Non-Competitive Hiring Authority certificate.
