🔗Historic Gold Rush Boomtown Archeology Intern – 640 hours

Website National Park Service/NCPE Internship Program
This is an in-person internship in Skagway, Alaska, at Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park. The position will be a part of a multi-year emergency excavation at the historic Dyea Townsite unit of the park where archeologists are responding to rapid river erosion of a National Historic Landmark (NHL) district associated with the Klondike Gold Rush of 1898.
The intern will process and catalog historic archeological field collections from the Dyea Townsite, a former Klondike Gold Rush boom town. Working with park archeologists, the intern will clean, research, photograph, and catalog artifacts. The internship may also include accompanying park staff in the field for GIS data collection and archeological excavations. Additional work could include GIS map making and draft report writing.
This position is part of the Internship Program administered by the National Council for Preservation Education (NCPE). The program is a partnership between the National Park Service and NCPE. The successful applicant must be 30 years of age or younger (or 35 years or younger if a Veteran) when beginning the internship. Qualified NCPE interns who complete their internships may count their position towards earning a Public Land Corps (PLC) Non-Competitive Hiring Authority certificate.
