🔗National Register of Historic Places Social Media Intern – 400 hours
Website National Park Service/NCPE Internship Program
The National Council for Preservation Education (NCPE)’s Internship Program is a partnership with the National Park Service and other Federal agencies with cultural resource protection and public land management responsibilities. The purpose of the program is to accomplish needed and important work on federally protected lands while providing program participants with professional experience in their chosen fields. Interns work under the guidance of agency staff who are subject area experts to carry out the mission of the park.
To be eligible, applicants must be between 18 and 30 years old (or 35 if a veteran) when starting the internship, a college student or recent graduate (within the past 12 months at the time of application), enrolled in a degree-seeking program, and a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
The National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) and the National Historic Landmarks (NHL) Program in Washington, DC, provide nationwide guidance on the historic recognition of properties that are significant to a community, a state, or the nation as a whole. The National Register intern will assist with building upon and improving the National Register program’s social media presence; primarily planning/scheduling, and developing relevant Facebook, Instagram, and Flickr posts, focusing on commemorative historical events and featured listings. The position will also include creating and writing pages for the National Park Service (NPS) website about National Register properties. The intern will work under the supervision of a National Register Archivist and a National Register Senior Historian. In the course of their work, the intern may also interact with staff in other NPS programs, regional offices, and/or State Historic Preservation Offices. This is a good opportunity for students with an interest in promoting historic preservation across multiple digital platforms and in expanding their knowledge of federal historic preservation programs.
This internship is a remote duty station/telework position for which the selectee is not expected to report in person to Washington, DC. An agency laptop and relevant security credentials will be provided for the duration of the internship. All NCPE internships accrue 4 hours of PTO for every 80 hours worked.
Qualified NCPE interns who complete their internships may count their position towards earning a Public Land Corps (PLC) Non-Competitive Hiring Authority certificate. Once earned, the PLC certificate may be used to apply for eligible Federal permanent, temporary, or term positions. Visit https://preservenet.org/ncpe-internships/ for details about this benefit. Successful completion of the internship does not guarantee Federal employment.
