National Park Service/NCPE Internship Program
The Park Programs and National Heritage Areas (PPNHA) subdirectorate comprises seven major cultural resource and historic preservation programs of the National Park Service (NPS). In accordance with federal laws and policies, PPNHA works with parks and regions to provide direction and guidance for the responsible identification, protection, preservation, interpretation, and stewardship of NPS cultural resources, which encompass over 85,000 documented archeological sites, 950 cultural landscapes, 26,400 historic structures, 600 ethnographic resources, 51 million museum objects, and 86,000 linear feet of archives.
The National Park Service’s (NPS) Park Programs and National Heritage Areas (PPNHA) subdirectorate is seeking a qualified student or recent graduate to serve as the National Cultural Resources Data Analysis and Visualization Intern. This is a new position that will support the PPNHA Program Analyst in developing robust and useful analytical reports, presentations, graphics, and other products derived from the wealth of cultural resources datasets maintained by NPS. Specific responsibilities include:
- Creating dashboards, reports, and presentations to provide insights into cultural resources data quality, utility, and accessibility throughout NPS.
- Accessing internal data systems, applications, and tools to fulfill requests for data, documentation, and analysis.
- Processing, organizing, and disseminating information internally to address both long-standing and emergent service-wide cultural resources management and stewardship questions.
- Assisting in the development and review of NPS’ cultural resources data management strategy.
- Performing other related duties as assigned.
This is a fully remote position with some travel required. Work schedule and hours are flexible and will be determined in conjunction with the selected candidate after an offer has been made and accepted.
This position is part of the Internship Program administered by the National Council for Preservation Education (NCPE). The program is a partnership between the National Park Service and NCPE. The successful applicants must be 30 years of age or younger (or 35 years or younger if a Veteran) when they begin the internship. Qualified NCPE interns who complete their internships may count their position towards earning a Public Land Corps (PLC) Non-Competitive Hiring Authority certificate.
