The successful candidate will work with and assist cultural landscape architects, historians, and other preservation professionals to complete updates to Cultural Landscape Inventories (CLIs) located in a variety of National Park sites in the National Capital Region (District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia). This in-person opportunity is located in Washington, D.C., and includes a combination of remote office work, in-person office work, and field documentation.

The internship involves researching the landscape history and associated physical development of a historic property; site visits and field work to document existing conditions with photographs, maps, and graphics; analyzing landscape features; preparing CLI updates; entering information into the Cultural Resources Inventory System (CRIS) database; and performing other duties as assigned. This opportunity will allow the intern to learn about and participate in a preservation program by working directly with Federal cultural resource professionals in the National Capital Region – Preservation Services.

This position is part of the Internship Program administered by the National Council for Preservation Education (NCPE). The program is a partnership between the National Park Service and NCPE. The successful applicants must be 30 years of age or younger (or 35 years or younger if a Veteran) when they begin the internship.
