  • Job Qualifications:

    The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

    Must meet the professional qualifications standards in 36 CFR 61, Appendix A: a graduate degree in history, architectural history, architecture, historical architecture, or a closely-related field; or bachelor degree in history, architectural history, architecture, historical architecture, or closely-related field and two years of work experience in a relevant discipline.
    Two additional years of work experience in a relevant discipline are preferred.
    Familiarity with applying the National Register of Historic Places Criteria for Evaluation and assessing historic integrity for historic properties.
    Familiarity with Secretary of the Interior’s Standards and Guidelines for Archaeology and Historic Preservation for Identification and Evaluation, and other federal historic preservation laws, regulations, guidelines.
    Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with a wide range of preservation constituents in both the public and private sectors.
    Ability to implement, plan, and critically evaluate research.
    Ability to review, understand, interpret technical data, such as architectural and engineering drawings, primary and secondary research sources, and maps.
    Extensive computer application knowledge.
    Ability to use Geographic Information System software.
    Prioritize work and meet multiple deadlines

The Ohio History Connection, formerly the Ohio Historical Society, is a statewide history organization with the mission to spark discovery of Ohio’s stories. Chartered in 1885, Ohio History Connection carries out history services for Ohio and its citizens focused on preserving and sharing the state’s history. This includes housing the state historic preservation office, the official state archives, local history office and managing more than 50 sites and museums across Ohio.

We are currently seeking a Survey & National Register Manager to review and process Ohio Historic Inventory survey products and National Register of Historic Places nominations to identify and evaluate historic properties throughout Ohio; advising and educating applicants about the survey and National Register programs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Review Ohio Historic Inventory History-Architecture survey forms and reports; provide written guidance to applicants.
Review National Register of Historic Places nominations and related maps, photographs, floorplans, and supplemental materials; provide written guidance to applicants; assist in fulfilling public notification requirements.
Assist in review of National Register Questionnaires.
Participate in preparation and presentation of nominations at Ohio Historic Site Preservation Advisory Board meetings.
Assist in development and review of Inventory & Registration Department special projects/programs.
Create and present training and education for survey and National Register topics; includes written material, workshops, conferences, presentations, training sessions.
Coordinate Ohio Historic Inventory and National Register programs with other departments in office and state and local agencies.
Communicate Ohio Historic Inventory and National Register programs; respond to public inquiries.
