Website Preservation Society of Charleston

Founded in 1920, the Preservation Society of Charleston (PSC) is the oldest grassroots preservation organization in the nation. Our mission is to serve as a strong advocacy leader for citizens concerned about preserving Charleston’s distinctive character, quality of life, and diverse neighborhoods.

The PSC is seeking a motivated and passionate Special Projects Intern for summer 2025. This internship provides an opportunity to gain unique experience as part of a dynamic team of preservation professionals, while contributing meaningfully to key organizational initiatives. This purpose of this position is to advance the PSC’s roles in serving as a resource for technical preservation assistance and a partner in stewarding Charleston’s historic places.

Given the breadth of PSC’s advocacy work, the intern may support special projects involving but not limited to historical research and documentation, interpretation, burial ground preservation, climate resilience, building trades education, archival digitization, and archaeology. We invite applications from candidates with related experience and will consider student proposals in advancement of academic or thesis work. Preference will be given to proposals that advance the PSC’s advocacy mission in Charleston.

Through our internship program, the PSC aims to cultivate the next generation of professionals in the field of historic preservation. As part of the PSC team, the Special Projects intern will have the opportunity to collaborate regularly with PSC Staff and community stakeholders, and participate in organizational events.
