The mission of The Hershey Story Museum is to inspire and engage visitors by celebrating and preserving the history of Milton S. Hershey. The Hershey Story is an operating division of The M.S. Hershey Foundation, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization.
The Collections and Exhibitions Assistant will aid the Senior Manager of Historical Collections and Exhibitions with all aspects of collections care including physical and digital access and documentation of artifacts. The position’s main responsibilities will be to assist with accessioning, cataloging, loan requests, inventory, deaccessioning and daily physical care of the collection. Work includes consultation and repatriation of culturally sensitive heritage items to comply with the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA). The Collections and Exhibitions Assistant will contribute to exhibition development, assist with installation/de-installation and ongoing maintenance of exhibits as necessary. Incumbent will respond to research inquiries and photographic requests from both internal and external stakeholders, including social media requests. Cooperate with Hershey Community Archives staff to accurately document items in the museum’s collection and respond to research inquiries. Liaise with staff at the Hershey Entities and other external partners on various projects. Additionally, the Collections and Exhibitions Assistant will work with interns and volunteers on ongoing projects. Occasionally, the incumbent will also act as manager on duty and assist with guided tours and educational/public programs. The position’s working location is on-site at the museum.
