The Archaeologist for Oklahoma Department of Transportation works under supervision within a team of subject matter experts in identification and National Register of Historic Places evaluation of archaeological resources. As authorized agents consulting with the State Historic Preservation Office and other consulting parties, the Archaeologist conducts evaluations of prehistoric and historic-period archaeological resources for transportation undertakings. These projects largely include roadway and bridge improvements projects, participation and review of mitigation efforts for adverse effects to significant archaeological sites, and review and preparation of context studies. The work is a mix of oversight of consultant-prepared cultural resources survey and mitigation reports, with fieldwork and report preparation for in-house projects. The position provides for a mix of telework, fieldwork, and office work, as needed.
