  • Job Summary: We are looking for a junior-level (2-5 years experience) architectural historian to join our Portland, OR, office. Please consider applying even if you do not meet all the desired qualifications.
  • Job Qualifications:

    The skills we are looking for include:

    – Knowledge of regional architectural history and broader historical patterns relevant to American architectural history
    – Clear and concise writing
    – The ability to research and understand what is relevant to the project
    – The ability to multitask, keep track of and manage individual contributions to team deadlines, and willingness to take direction
    – The curiosity to ask questions and the initiative to contribute to a dynamic team.
    – Knowledge of Section 106, QGIS and/or ArcGIS, Cultural Landscape identification, HABS/HAER/HALS documentation a plus

     

    Minimum Requirements:

    – BA in architecture, architectural history, historic preservation, or related field OR
    – Graduate degree in architectural history, art history, historic preservation, or closely related field with coursework in American architectural history
    – ODOT-qualified, or qualifiable within the first three months of hire
    1-5 years of relevant experience

Job duties will include the following:

– Fieldwork conducting Reconnaissance- and Intensive-Level Surveys (local and regional)
– Researching the historic context and physical development of historic resources
– Evaluating eligibility of historic resources
– Preparing Determinations of Eligibility and Findings of Effect statements
– Writing historic context statements in technical reports
– Writing physical descriptions of resources in technical reports
– Photo-documentation
– Map-making (GIS)
